Information Technology Services
Information Technology Services (IT Services) is responsible for providing the delivery of business applications, desktop support, technology infrastructure, network communications and telephone services. The IT Services team support the municipal business needs with timely, reliable and cost effective technological solutions using the strategy approved by council. This strategy sets a key target of continuous improvement. IT Services focus is to build upon a solid technology foundation while working with the business units (departments) to enable service improvements and new service offerings. The strategy will be updated in 2012 and will define areas of focus for information technology over the next 3-5 years.
IT Services staff are constantly improving existing technology assets and implementing new assets. Recent examples of this innovation include the provision of WiFi at many of our city facilities and online web casting of various council and committee meetings. As part of the 2010 municipal election, council approved the use of internet voting as part of the advance polling process.
Currently, the IT Services team is in the process of upgrading the corporate telephone system. This upgrade will replace aging and disparate telephone and voice systems found throughout our various facilities. This new technology will provide the City of Burlington with the opportunity to improve business processes, boost productivity and enhance customer service. Another major corporate project underway with focus on customer service is the e-Government strategy.
Major technological projects undertaken by the IT Services team are approved as part of the city’s capital budget process. Further information is available under the Current and Capital Budget pages of the city’s website.
