Water Services

Everything in our environment depends on a cycle of life. The water that comes out of your tap travels an important cycle that starts from a water source - Lake Ontario is ours. The water is pumped to a Water treatment plant where it becomes drinking water quality. You turn your tap and it's there.

Once the water from your sink, and other parts of your house goes down the drain, it enters another part of the water cycle. The wastewater passes through a network of gravity sewers, pump stations and force mains, that push the wastewater to the treatment plant. Following strict rules, the water is treated and returned to the environment.

In Burlington, the Region of Halton's Planning and Public Works Department (Environmental Services) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Regional water purification and wastewater treatment plants, as well as all water distribution and wastewater collection systems. What this means to you is that we provide your drinking water and "take away" your wastewater. We are also here to help or give advise on a 24-hour-a-day basis with regard to any problems you may have with your water service, wastewater lateral, or water meter. This service is supported through payment of your water and wastewater utility bill (as billed to you by your local Hydro-Electric Commission).

Our water treatment plants are the Skyway Waste Water Treatment Plant, 1125 Lakeshore Rd. and the Burlington Water Purification Plant, 3249 Lakeshore Rd.
