Federal Transit Tax Exemption Information


What is the transit tax credit for public transit?Tax Credit

Canada Revenue Agency proposed changes in eligibility guidelines to the Federal Transit Tax Credit. Effective July 1, 2006 15.50% non-refundable transit tax credit was initiated based on a monthly or longer transit pass. Visit www.transitpass.ca , or Canada Revenue Agency websites for additional information about how to qualify and claim the credit.

As of January 1, 2007, the public transit tax credit has been expanded to include weekly passes. You must claim at least 4 consecutive weekly passes, and each weekly pass must provide unlimited public transit use for an uninterrupted period of between 5 and 7 days.


To claim your Federal Transit Tax Credit ALL customers must save their purchase receipts and applicable fare ticket/pass and submit them when filing their income tax.
