Which Skate Is Best For You? | |

Adult Skate |
For those 18yrs and older. Enjoy a skate with friends to keep fit with low impact exercise. This skate is not patrolled. |

Family Skate |
This skate is for adults to spend quality time with family and young children. Children younger than 18yrs of age must be accompanied on the ice by a responsible person 18yrs or older. Skate aides available. |

Public Skate |
Everyone is welcome! This skate is a great way to socialize and skate with family and friends. Ice Patrol will be on the ice to ensure that everyone experiences a safe skate. |

Youth Skate |
A skate exclusively for youths and teens between the ages of 11 and 19 years. Meet friends, listen to music, and have fun. |

Sticks & Pucks |
An opportunity for children under 8yrs of age and caregivers to practice their stick handling skills on the ice. For safety reasons, organized hockey will not be permitted. This skate is not patrolled, caregivers require skates. |

Shinny Hockey |
These sessions provide opportunities for hockey players of all abilities to benefit from drop-in, pick-up hockey on a first come, first served basis · Games are non contact · Mandatory equipment includes; CSA approved helmets with face cage/shield, shin pads, hockey sticks and gloves · Wearing full equipment is recommended · Goalies play for FREE To provide greater enjoyment for all players, Shinny Hockey is categorized as follows: Adult Shinny: men & women 18yrs+ Senior Shinny: restricted to players 45yrs+ Women’s Shinny: exclusively for women 18yrs+ Youth Shinny for ages 8-12yrs: must show proof age on first visit Youth Shinny for ages 13-17yrs: must show student card on first visit Please note: only 30 participants will be allowed on an ice pad at a time during all Shinny programs. Spots are given on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to arrive early to ensure your spot on the ice |
Skating Admission and Supervision Standards
(for all Arenas and Rotary Centennial Pond)
Only participants wearing ice skates are permitted on ice pad during Recreational Skating times.
Children 6 years of age and under:
· Must wear a CSA approved helmet and face cage is recommended
Children 10yrs of age and under:
Must be accompanied to the skate by a responsible person 14yrs or older who must maintain visual contact throughout the skate
Are encouraged to wear a CSA approved helmet to maintain safety on the ice
Adults:
·Are encouraged to wear a CSA approved helmet to maintain safety on the ice
Individuals with serious medical conditions:
Are at greater risk while skating
Should be accompanied by another individual knowledgeable about their conditions(s) and responsible for their direct supervision
Shinny Capacity
Only 30 participants will be allowed on an ice pad at one time during all Shinny programs. Spots are given on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to arrive early to ensure your spot.For Your Safety
Our ICE PATROL will be on duty for all Public Skates to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all skaters. Children under 7 yrs of age must wear a CSA approved skating helmet and a face cage is recommended. Adults are also encouraged to wear a CSA approved helmet to maintain safety on the ice. Maximum capacity for all recreational skating programs is 160 persons.Shinny hockey participants must wear a minimum of a CSA approved helmet with face cage, shin pads and hockey gloves.
Helmet Safety
Helmets are designed to protect your head during falls and collisions while skating. Protective cages and shields help prevent eye, face and dental injury. Children under 7 years must wear a CSA approved helmet during recreational skating programs. Adults are also encouraged to wear helmets to maintain safety on the ice.Child helmets are available for your use at each arena during family and public skate times. Quantity is limited, first come, first served.
Ice Capacity
City of Burlington ice pads have a pre-determined capacity of skaters at one time. Spots are given on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to get there early to ensure your spot in a recreational skate.Public Skating Rules
All rules and regulations are posted at all City of Burlington arenas in a clear location. Please ensure you follow all rules during your skate. Skate patrol staff will be monitoring the ice pad during public skate times to ensure patrons are abiding accordingly.Skate Aids
Skate aids are hand held devices that enable beginner skaters to learn the basics of skating assisting them with balance on skates. These aids are available for your use at each arena during recreational and family skate times. Quantity is limited, first come, first served.Use of Hockey Sticks on the Ice
In order to maintain a safe atmosphere, hockey sticks are not permitted on the ice during public skate times unless a space has been appropriately sectioned off. Please limit the use of sticks to Shinny Hockey programs onlyRentals
