Provincial Context for Growth

Provincial Context for Growth

Burlington is part of a rapidly growing area of Ontario known as the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH). Stretching from Peterborough to Niagara, this three million hectare area is currently home to nearly eight million people.

Growth pressures have been a reality in the GGH over the past several decades, and there is every indication that these pressures will continue.  In recognition of these growth pressures the Province of Ontario has turned its attention to developing a comprehensive growth management strategy.  “Places to Grow” is the Province’s vision for growth in this key economic region.  Hand in hand with the proposed Greenbelt legislation, these two provincial initiatives are intended to address growth demands while protecting the Province’s natural areas and countryside.
