City residents invited to proposed 2009 current budget meetings

BURLINGTON, Ont.— The City of Burlington invites residents to have your say as the City of Burlington’s budget and strategic planning committee considers the proposed 2009 capital budget.

“Community involvement is a critical part of budget decision-making in Burlington,” said Burlington Mayor Cam Jackson. “Burlington City Council is strongly committed to seeking public input and ensuring our annual budget is a transparent and accountable process.”

Copies of the 2009 proposed current budget will be available by Feb. 10, 2009, at the Clerks Department, Main Floor, City Hall, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

There are two components to the city’s budget: the capital budget, which the city sets aside to cover the infrastructure costs of building and renewing our roads, bridges, parks, recreational centres, arenas, pools and libraries, and the current or operating budget, which covers the costs of providing such important city services as recreation, public transit, snow removal, road maintenance and fire services.
