Nearly 200 people attend Brant Street Pier information meeting

For Immediate Release - Sept. 2, 2009

BURLINGTON, ON – Nearly 200 people attended an information meeting held at the Lions Club Complex on Sept. 1 to update the community regarding the construction of the Brant Street Pier.

Ward 2 Councillor Peter Thoem asked the city’s project team to hold the meeting following the recent announcement that 27 of the 36 steel beams that form the substructure of the Brant Street Pier must be removed to ensure the pier meets quality standards.

Damaged and deficient steel beams and other components will either be replaced or repaired by the city’s contractor.

City Manager Roman Martiuk; Community Services General Manager Scott Stewart; Director of Engineering, Tom Eichenbaum; and Philip Kelly of the city’s engineering department gave a project update at the Lions Club and opened the floor for questions and comments. The presentation is posted on the pier pages of the city’s website.
