Alton High School, Library, Community Centre and Norton Community Park Campus

Energy Saving Measures

  • A building automation system closely monitors and controls the building’s internal climate, heating and light schedule which results in the reduction of energy and environmental costs
  • Okalux® glass is planned around the top 12 feet of the gyms' perimeter. This glazing will be diffuse natural light glare during the day so that no lights are required to be on during this period. 
  • An energy-saving HVAC system that is 29 per cent more energy efficient than code requires
  • Thermal decks between the building floors will allow enhanced temperature control 

Energy Generation Measures

  • In partnership with Burlington Hydro, a rooftop solar system will be installed on the high school gymnasium roof with the capacity to over 70 kilowatts of energy back into the power grid. There will be an educational display onsite in regards to the solar system.
