General Brock School Site
Overview
The General Brock school site was declared surplus by the Halton District School Board (HDSB) and the high school was closed in 2003.
The City of Burlington has been working together with the HDSB, the General Brock Park Committee and the community to determine future uses and opportunities for the site. HDSB have now identified that 5.58 hectares (14.05 acres) of the site will be disposed of. A public meeting was held jointly with the City of Burlington and the General Brock Committee on Dec.1, 2009.
The meeting updated the community about the site and outlined the council approved Surplus School Strategy and reviewed the status of the General Brock site and options available to City Council to address the future of this site.
The availability and quality of leisure opportunities are an important part of Burlington’s high quality of life and an integral component of the Burlington community. The City of Burlington is a major provider of cultural and recreational services in the city.
To ensure that the city continues to provide these services and opportunities in the most effective and relevant way possible, the city undertakes regular strategic reviews. When completed the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Assets Master Plan will provide a strategy to ensure that the city is able to meet the needs of residents and adapt to the changing demographics and recreational trends in Burlington.
