City to proceed with negotiations to buy General Brock lands

Burlington City Council has authorized staff to proceed to negotiate with the Halton District School Board to buy the lands declared surplus at the former General Brock high school site (also known as Gary Allen high school), consisting of 12.72 acres plus the flood plain portion of approximately 2.66 acres.

The City of Burlington has been working together with the Halton District School Board, the General Brock Park Committee and the community to determine future uses and opportunities for the site. A public meeting was held jointly with the City of Burlington and the General Brock Committee on Dec. 1, 2009.

As a result of community consultation, council approved the direction to secure these lands for a new community park which will include at least two premiere multi-purpose sports fields with lights and associated parking as required. Future public consultation will be held to review the design and features of this new community park.
