HOLIDAY TREE SAFETY
Picking the tree:
If you have an artificial tree, be sure it is labeled, certified, or identified by the manufacturer as fire retardant. If you prefer a real tree, choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched. If you have a real tree, be sure to add water to the tree daily, or as required. It is important to keep the tree green and fresh.
Placing the tree:
Make sure that the tree is at least 3 feet away from any heat source; like a fireplace, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights. Ensure that the tree is placed in an area that is not blocking an exit.
Lighting the tree:
Use lights that have the label of an independent testing laboratory. Keep in mind that not all lights are designed for indoor use. Replace any string of lights that are worn, have broken cords and / or loose bulb connections. It is recommended that no more than 3 strands of mini light sets are connected together. Never use lit candles to decorate a tree. Always remember to turn off your christmas lights before leaving your home or going to bed.
