Joseph Brant Hospital breaks ground on redevelopment
The groundbreaking for the major redevelopment and expansion project at Joseph Brant Hospital took place earlier this month. Construction will begin at the end of the month and the buildings of the McMaster Family Health Centre are expected to open spring 2014. City of Burlington and Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital sign historic agreement
City Council approved the $60-million contribution agreement between the city and Jo Brant at a City Council meeting on July 16, 2012. On Sept. 25, 2012, members of council and staff met with the hospital's board of governors and its president to make the agreement official.

Historic moment as City Council says yes to $60 M hospital funding agreement
City Council unanimously approved a $60-million contribution agreement between the city and Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital for the hospital's redevelopment and expansion project. The project is said to be the largest and most important infrastructure project considered by City Council.

The City of Burlington's Budget and Corporate Services Committee on July 10 will consider a contribution agreement confirming how and when the city will contribute $60 million toward the redevelopment of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, subject to the conditions within the agreement.

Negotiations between the City of Burlington and Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital continue as the groups move toward completing a contribution agreement for the hospital’s redevelopment. City Council approves a plan to support Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital redevelopment
Burlington City Council on April 30, 2012, approved a plan for how the city will manage its promised share of funding for the redevelopment of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital.
In December 2009, City Council approved up to $60 million as a municipal contribution for the proposed hospital redevelopment plan. The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation has also committed to raising $60 million through a fundraising campaign.
Within the go-forward strategy approved by council on April 30, staff were directed to retain a lead negotiator to draft the contribution agreement. The negotiator is Paul Blundy of Bennett Jones, LLP.

The City of Burlington’s Budget and Corporate Services Committee today supported a go-forward plan for how the city will manage its promised share of funding for the redevelopment of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital.
The go-forward strategy presented by staff on April 17 calls for the city to negotiate a contribution agreement that provides for the “responsible and timely release of funds.”

Burlington City Council approves 2011 Tax Levy By-law
At its May 3 meeting, Burlington City Council approved the 2011 tax levy by-law that allows the city to bill 2011 property taxes and set payment due dates of June and September. The overall tax rate increase is 0.9 per cent or $9.26 for each $100,000 of urban residential assessment. This is the lowest combined tax increase in 11 years. Consistent with 2010, the net tax levy for 2011 includes $1.2 million as a contribution to the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital.

City maintains high-quality services with 2.1 per cent tax increase
On March 22, Burlington City Council approved the city’s 2010 operating budget resulting in an overall tax increase of 2.1 per cent, or $21.68 a year, for each $100,000 of residential assessment… Council has chosen to allocate $1.2 million from the 2009 city surplus toward the $60 million municipal contribution to the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital redevelopment and expansion project. Council also approved a special dedicated tax levy for 2010 equivalent to 1.1 per cent which will generate an additional $1.2 million toward this project as a starting point for the city’s contribution towards this community asset.
