Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) Feedback Form: Input on Draft Plan

The City of Burlington initiated a study to develop an Urban Forest Management Plan in November 2009. The purpose of this Plan is to increase urban forest management effectiveness and efficiency, improve tree health and diversity, minimize risks to the public, and maximize the benefits provided by a healthy and sustainable urban forest.

A draft vision, guiding principles and strategic objectives have been developed based on input from consultations with Council, city staff, stakeholders and members of the community undertaken over January and February 2010.

The Draft Plan identifies opportunities on both public and private lands, in urban and rural Burlington, and focuses on five key areas:

  1. Management and Implementation
  2. Community Engagement and Stewardship
  3. Protection and Preservation
  4. Replenishment and Enhancement
  5. Tree Health and Risk Management

Recommendations for each of these areas have been developed based on a review of Burlington’s current practices, evaluation of leading examples from other jurisdictions, and consideration for input received through consultations. The recommendations have been assigned priorities within the Plan’s 20-year framework, with many targeted for completion during the first five-year period.

Current information related to the project (including the Draft Plan) and notices about upcoming meetings will be posted on the City’s website. A Public Information Centre (PIC) was held to gather input on the Draft Plan on May 4th, 2010.

Please use this feedback form to submit your input. This input will be considered during development of the Final Plan.

Comments will be accepted until Tuesday May 18th, 2010.
