Mayor's Events

Inspire BurlingtonInspire Burlington

We know Burlington is a great place to live, work and play and we want to make it even better. I want to address that challenge by inviting world-class, visionary speakers to fire our imaginations through the INSPIRE Burlington speakers' series.

This series will explore ideas, frame global issues as they impact Burlington, examine solutions, and investigate ways to shift perspectives on the unique opportunities coming our way. It will be a marketplace of innovative thinking that encourages significant public participation through question-and-answer periods.

These events will provide the spark that ignites the next way of great ideas for this progressive community.

November 19, 2012 - 7 p.m.; The Burlington Performing Arts Centre
Senator Art Eggleton

"The Great Divergence: Income Inequality in Canada"

The Burlington Community Foundation recently released Burlington VitalSigns 2012, a report that uses local agencies, business leaders and community members to document key indicators and identify trends and vital information that is critical to addressing Burlington's highest priority needs.

This includes the gap between rich and poor. Please join us as Senator Art Eggleton begins the conversation on inequality.

Senator Eggleton has served the people of Canada and the city of Toronto in public office for over 37 years, including 11 years as Mayor of Toronto and 11 years in the House of Commons as the member for York Centre.

In 2005, Art Eggleton was appointed to the Senate of Canada. He currently serves as Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology and is a member of the Standing Committee on Transport and Communication.

He is Co-Chair of the Liberal Social and Economic Policy Caucus and Co-Chair of the All-Party Anti-Poverty Caucus.

Please join us for Senator Eggleton's presentation and register  today.

Mayor’s Roundtable

I continue to hold a series of events intended to start a new relationship with our community stakeholders with the Mayor’s Community Roundtable. We had our first conversation on January 27, 2011. There were more than 25 attendees who participated in this pilot project - community leaders representing a broad cross section of the community through their members, congregations and participants.

The Roundtable continues to meet every few months. Thank you to all the community groups who continue to engage in this fruitful exchange.
