Seniors invited to ‘live for today, plan for tomorrow’ at free event

Burlington, Ont.—May 16, 2011–Recognizing that today’s seniors are living longer than ever and are focused on quality of life, Burlington Mayor Rick Goldring is hosting a free community event this month called Live for Today, Plan for Tomorrow.

The event will feature presentations on healthy cooking, travel options and how to prepare financially for the future. It will be held Friday, May 27, 2011 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Burlington Seniors’ Centre at 2285 New St., in Central Park.

According to federal government information, seniors make up the fastest-growing age group in Canada. By 2051, about one in four Canadians is expected to be 65 or over.

“Older adults can be excited about their options for the future, about finding tangible ways to create and maintain the high quality of life we all dream about, or strive for,” said Mayor Goldring. “The living-well symposium is a great resource for seniors and for those who will soon enter their senior years.”
