Easier Access Program

Burlington Transit provides a choice of mobility options for riders with special needs. These include low floor buses, Handi-Van and Taxi Scrip.

Low floor buses are fully accessible to passengers who use wheelchairs, scooters and walkers. While accessible buses are not yet available on all routes at all times, Burlington Transit is committed to increasing the number of buses available over time.

Low floor bus routes and times are highlighted in the Schedules. You can also call BusLINE at 905-639-0550 to confirm that an accessible bus is available on your route.

Handi-Van and TaxiScrip are door to door services for qualified passengers with physical disabilities.

For full details, please call 905-639-0550.

Flag Stop

To make transit more convenient in these specified areas you can board the bus at locations other than posted bus stops by waving to the driver as the bus approaches.

Handi-Van

Handi-Van is a specialized service operated by Burlington Transit for persons with physical disabilities who have been approved for transportation by the Handi-Van Advisory Committee. For more information Call 905-639-5158.

Operation PAL (Public Alert)

Burlington Transit participates in Operation PAL, a community involvement program that assists members of the public. This program links radio-equipped drivers from various member agencies with emergency services. Children should be encouraged to ask for assistance from drivers of vehicles displaying the PAL logo.

Fare Integration

To make transit more convenient and inexpensive, Burlington Transit has an arrangement with GO Transit to allow you to ride the bus to catch the GO Train at a reduced rate of $.60 per trip. To take advantage of the Fare Integration Program, simply show the bus driver your valid GO pass or ticket when you board the bus and put $.60 into the farebox. For added convenience, you may purchase BT's GO Monthly Pass for only $24.00 and show the pass along with your valid GO ticket or pass to the driver when boarding the bus.

Fare Integration also allows you to go to/from Hamilton and Oakville using HSR or Oakville Transit - FREE! Just pay the regular fare on the first bus of your trip, ask the driver for a transfer slip and present your transfer to the driver when you change buses.

Inter-Lined Routes

On some buses "Inter-Lining" occurs where a route ends and another route begins. This system is designed to reduce transfers on routes which are paired with each other. At the end of the route, the bus changes its sign and serves the next route in the loop. Routes 2 & 3, and 4 & 5 are paired this way. For example, Routes 2 & 3 are interlined at the Downtown Terminal. When a route 2 bus arrives, it changes to route 3 so that the people do not have to get off the bus to transfer.

The following list shows inter-lined routes and their change-over locations:

  • Route 2 becomes Route 3 and 3 becomes 2 at Autumn Hill & Driftwood (Cavendish)
  • Route 2 becomes Route 3 and 3 becomes 2 at Downtown Terminal
  • Route 4 becomes Route 5 and 5 becomes 4 at Downtown Terminal
