Ministry of Environment cleaning up spill in Sheldon Creek


 

Burlington, Ont., March 30, 2012 - The Ministry of the Environment is currently cleaning up a spill in Sheldon Creek, between Mainway and Sherwood Forest Park. The spill appears to have originated near John Lucas Drive (off Mainway, between Appleby Line and Burloak Drive).

The MOE was alerted to the spill at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29.

The MOE and the city's environmental consultant, Newalta Environmental Services, have erected a temporary damn to control the flow of the creek, and the MOE is on site directing the clean-up. City staff are assisting in a support capacity.

The MOE has yet to identify the spilled material or the source of the spill.

Halton Regional Police Service, through a media release are warning residents to keep children and pets away from the spill area until the clean-up is complete.
