Burlington, Ont., April 12, 2012 -- Mountainside Recreation Centre has received numerous improvements recently including a new playground, multi-use court with skate features, tree planting, reforestation, trail installations, and splash-pad. Most of those upgrades were funded through the 2009-2010 federal/provincial RInC program.
The final stage for Mountainside site involves the renewal of the arena facility and pool change house as part of the planned renovations. The end product will transform the arena and pool change house into a refreshed Recreation Centre complete with community rooms, viewing area, enhanced lobby space and updated facade and finishes allowing better access to both the pool and arena. This facility is more than 40 years old and requires significant improvements to meet current standards and community needs.
As part of tender process for the renewal of Mountainside Recreation Centre, city staff will request potential contractors to propose safe, affordable and viable approaches to maintain the pool and splash-pad for the 2013 and 2014 summer seasons. The outcome of the tender process will then be broadcasted to the community through subsequent media releases and information on our website at http://www.burlington.ca/.
"Mountainside pool is a popular neighbourhood destination and we'll ask the contractors to do everything possible to keep the pool open safely during the summer months," said Chris Glenn, Director of Parks and Recreation. Glenn emphasized that the city's main priority will be public safety. "If there is any indication that this revised approach isn't completely safe for pool users, the city will have no choice but to revisit temporary closure options."
The city expects to award the tender in 2013. The renovations will be complete in the fall of 2014.
