Monitoring   Stage 1   Stage 2   Stage 3
    1 day with 40 or greater humidex   2+ days with 40 or greater humidex   4+ days with 40 or greater humidex or 1+ day(s) with 45 or greater humidex

Weather forecasts are monitored by Halton Region Public Health Department for conditions that can be hazardous to health.  A heat event will occur when the weather calls for 1 day with 40 or greater humidex and notification will be sent via Public Health Department to radio and TV with information on how to stay cool. 

Extreme heat can cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death. Public are advised to take precautions to reduce their risk of heat-related illnesses and to keep a lookout for the most vulnerable in your community.


During Stage 1

During Stage 1 the Cool Places facilities will provide an air conditioned place to cool off during posted business hours and regularly scheduled swims.


During Stage 2

During Stage 2 all Cool Places will be operating during posted business hours and regularly scheduled swims.

City pools will post extended hours on the Swimming Closures and Schedule Changes web page. 

City summer programs and/or rentals may be modified to account for the hot weather conditions.


During Stage 3

During Stage 3 all Cool Places will be operating during posted business hours and regularly scheduled swims.

City pools will post extended hours on the Swimming Closures and Schedule Changes web page. 

City summer programs and/or rentals may be cancelled or continued to be modified as a result of the extreme heat.
