Review of Cricket Opportunities
The City of Burlington has prepared a report based on community input and the need to provide a permanent cricket field. The conclusion of the review is that a permanent cricket field is not warranted at this time. Report PR-36-12 provides a recommendation to continue with the temporary field at Central Park in the interim.
Staff has provided information to Council and received staff directions as outlined in the reports below:

- Demonstrated and sustained need for a permanent cricket pitch
Current Situation
Currently, a temporary cricket field is in the outfields of two baseball diamonds in Central Park. The cricket field and baseball diamonds cannot be used at the same time. In order to use the cricket field, a temporary matting is brought to the field for each use and then removed when the game is over.
The field was utilized by two cricket teams in 2011 and again in 2012. The use is primarily on Sundays between the hours of 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. The two baseball fields are utilized by baseball organizations during the week.
Use of Temporary Cricket Field
In 2011, the field was utilized 18 times from May 8 to October 8 for a total of 118.5 hours. This use occurred on five Saturdays and 13 Sundays. The average length of a booking was 6.6 hours.
In 2012, the field has been permitted for 66 hours from May to September. At this time, there may be additional hours required by the cricket organizations.
