City of Burlington issues third-stage heat response

Burlington, Ont., July 17, 2012 - Halton Region has issued a heat alert. The humidity and heat is expected to generate temperatures in excess of 45 degrees Celsius.  As a result, the city has enacted the third stage of its heat response plan, which includes extending hours at specific city pools.

During declared heat alerts, the city identifies a number of sites where residents can visit to cool down. Please visit www.burlington.ca/heatresponse for the complete list.

Regular recreational pool hours can be found on the City's website www.burlington.ca/swimming.

Extended pool hours will be posted online after 3 p.m. at www.burlington.ca/swimming.

Extreme heat can cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death. The public is advised to take precautions to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and to keep a lookout for the most vulnerable in your community.
