Public Notice for Proposed Amendments to the Building Permit By-law and Fees

What we do in the Building Department

The Building Department is comprised of three sections:

The Building Permits and Inspections Services section is responsible for receiving, reviewing and issuing building permit applications in conformance with the Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code and other Applicable Law.  This section also includes property reports, inspections of properties under construction and granting occupancies.

The By-law Enforcement and Administration section is responsible for business and lottery licensing and enforcement of city by-laws regulating use and activity on private property.  This section is also responsible for property information requests, pool and sign permits, and the Tag Day process.

The Animal Control section is responsible for the enforcement of the city's animal control by-law.  This by-law provides for the enforcement of animals at large, dog licensing, and the Poop & Scoop program, in addition to responding to calls for domestic stray animals and sick or injured wildlife.  The Burlington Animal Shelter also provides an adoption centre for the public.  Animals available for adoption can be viewed at http://west.petfinder.com/shelters/ON125.html.  For more details, please contact the shelter directly at 905-335-3030.
