At the City of Burlington we view compensation as more than your base salary or hourly rate of pay.
We recognize that it is important that we offer a wide variety of benefits and services to meet the needs of our diverse workforce.
Health, Dental, Life Insurance and Long Term Disability
Standard Life manages the City of Burlington’s health, dental, life insurance and long term disability plans. The city has four unions and a non-union employee group. Benefits for each employee group are unique to meet the needs of a diverse work force. Benefits are available to all full-time staff and to part-time employees who work an average of 28 hours per week. The city pays 100% of the premiums including family coverage and Standard Life adjudicates all claims in accordance with their policy documents. .
Our benefit plans all contain coverage in the following areas:
- Medical including prescription drugs, hospital, vision care and out of province travel insurance.
- Dental benefits including coverage for regular cleanings, orthodontics for dependent children, dentures, bridges and crowns.
- Life Insurance at two times the employee salary
Long Term Disability benefits.
In addition employees can purchase optional Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberments benefits through payroll deduction.
Pension Plan
An important aspect of planning for retirement is a financially secure pension plan. The City of Burlington is a member of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Savings Plan (OMERS). Salary Administration
The City of Burlington believes in recognizing strong performance and has set up its non-union salary administration as a pay for performance system. Employees are moved through their salary range based on their overall performance, which is evaluated on an annual basis, and on their position within their salary range. Your performance effort is recognized and tied directly to your compensation.
For our unionized workforce, each collective agreement outlines the timing of and the percentage increases to salaries or hourly rates of pay.
